Results of community consultation days

Held on Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd February in the PNC (Priory Neighbourhood Centre), Priory Road. This centre used to be called The Scaffold centre and the Boxing Club.

There was a really good turnout on both days; we had children’s activities, questionnaires, and prizes, lunch, which included wholesome varieties of soup, fruit, cakes and other goodies to eat.

We were all pleased that so many of you took the time to attend and give your views about the area in which you live. Some of the responses are as follows;

* Thirty eight per cent of people who answered our questions were aged 20 –39 years, followed by the 50-64 aged group and the 65years+.
* Good on the 80% of people who thought Farley Bank was a good place to live.
* It was joint first place on why people had moved into the area with 34% saying they moved hereto be near family, and another 34% because they were allocated a flat here.
* Asked what you wanted the Residents Association to be involved in, we expected one or two answers to come up tops, but you voted that you wish us to help in everything as it is important that our people are represented in all activities, and our first couple of improvements have been to compile a newsletter that will be circulated soon and to add this page to the new Ore Valley website.
* To improve community spirit you wanted more community events like the consultation days and in the good weather hold events outside so everyone can see what’s going on even if they have not got the time participate.
* 56% said they wanted Farley Bank to be included in a Golden Jubilee celebration, so if anyone has any ideas please let us know.
* The top score (84%) on what bothers you in Farley Bank was litter and rubbish lying around, so if we all make a better effort to not throw litter down and only put large rubbish items out the day before the bin men come Farley Bank will improve and residents will be happier.

There was also a questionnaire regarding the 147 Community flat and its usage, these results showed

* 43% of people that answered have lived on Farley Bank for 11 – 20 years, 20% lived here 21yrs or more and by coming along on the days they still have a commitment to the area and believe in being involved in events. The next highest figure was 16% who had only been here 0-6mths and wanted to find out more about the area.
* 43% said they would get involved more if they were better informed on what’s going on, well we hope this and the newsletter helps resolve that feeling. * 60% thought Farley bank was changing for the better, so well done everyone in their efforts.
* In the 147 community flat, most people said they thought there should be activities for older children in the evenings, education and courses, advice and information and childcare and toddler groups.
* An overwhelming 96% said they thought it was important for the local community to have a say in running the 147 flat and the PNC, so please contact us for further info if this is you that want to be involved.
* 45% wanted basic English and spelling courses to be run in the 47 flat.
* Some comments about the 147 flat were – easy access and approachable staff, friendly environment, its very small, don’t like the access to the building, friendly people, somewhere to do your homework and sit and talk with friends, over 50’s activities, it is very homely, convenient, dark and depressing, have never been, its never open when they say it is, free and friendly advice, not always open, sense of community ownership, seems very informal and friendly.
